ASIC Design Methodology

CréVinn uses a structured top-down design approach called the "Fletcher Methodology". This technique was originally derived from Yourdon/De-Marco software design methodologies, by the pioneering work of Bill Fletcher of DAA (Design Analysis Associates, Logan, Utah).

The Fletcher Methodology provides us with several key advantages. As well as enabling well architected structured designs, it facilitates a strong team-working environment and provides well documented designs as a natural output of the process.

We have been using this technique with remarkable success over many years. Our long record of First Pass ASIC success and on-time delivery can be attributed to a significant degree to this methodology.

Benefits :

Architecture Right first time:  No costly loops of architectural changes required during detailed design stage.

Suits Teamwork environment: Best ideas, optimal architecture emerges via strong team synergy. Full team involvement leads to:

  • Better communications, so fewer faults.
  • Flexibility: moving engineers between functional blocks.
  • System-level understanding motivates team to ensure system-level correctness.

  • Consistency across designs : Same design style, same documentation format - facilitates porting functions between designs, re-use of ASICs/cores.

Engineers familiar with the approach can move amongst projects at short notice, and designers from other teams can instantly contribute at design reviews.
